Frothy Latte is a simple knitted placemat pattern, own design by Blue Balloon Atelier.
It can be made rather quickly, as it uses only K knit and P purl stitches, which, in combination, create this striking flower design.
It is like drawing with stitches!
Of course you do not need to stop at one placemat only. Create the whole set!

If you are planning to make more, please remember, to multiply quantities of yarns needed.

The design is simple enough for a beginner. But it also is very satisfying for a confident knitter as in a short amount of time a great present can be created.
It is a great project to start working with knits - quick to knit, simple but striking design, so the result is very satisfying. Although the project is so small, you will create a finished and practical product! Win-win :)
For this project you only need to know:

1. knit stitches (K, k)
2. purl stitches (P, p)
3. cast on
4. cast off (bind off)

Combination of purl and knit creates the textured design.
Because of that you can also choose your favourite side for the right side.

The size of a finished placemat is 37x26cm/14.7x10.5 inch, but with slightly different yarns then used for this sample, and different knitting tension, you may get a slightly different result.

Deramores Studio Chunky Acrylic was used to create this pattern.
Although on the Deramores website 9mm needles are recommended for this yarn, 8mm needles give much stronger and less likely to stretch final product, which is preferable for placemats, as they get a lot of wear].
You may choose other suggested yarns, as they have similar gauge to Deramores. Or simply use your favourite yarn.

To finish the project off you will also need: a tapestry needle or a crochet hook to help with loose yarn ends and scissors.
