Stripes are my favorite color. After falling in love with too many colors from Neighborhood Fiber Co., it was time to make a cardigan using many of them at once. A light fingering weight allows you to put something on under it and wear it most of the year. Although the entire sweater is worked in Stockinette stitch, the striping and color changes keep it fun.

This sweater has 2 inches of positive ease to allow you to layer under it and have a close-fitting look. It is worked bottom up in one piece to the armholes where it is then separated and the fronts and back are completed individually. The sleeves are worked top-down as set-in sleeves in which you pick up stitches around the armhole and work in the round (no seaming). The button bands and neckband are then worked. The sweater falls between your waist and high hip and there is an overlapping 1” button band.

SIZE

Ladies 32 (34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44) inch bust and high hip.
High hip is about 3 inches higher than your fullest hip.
There is no waist shaping and this garment has 2” of positive ease only. If you don’t want quite as tight-fitting of a garment or want to wear something thicker under it, consider knitting a larger size.

Neighborhood Fiber Co. Rustic Fingering 100% Merino; 475 yards / 113 grams per skein

Total needed:
(MC) 1 skein or 475 yards for all sizes
(CC) Approximately .5 (.5, .5, .75, .75, .75, .75) skein or 238 (238, 238, 356, 356, 356, 356) yards each of six contrasting colors (CCs).

Although this requires a lot of yarn, the remainder of the stunning colored skeins can be used to make another sweater, socks, or many other projects.

US 4 or size needed to obtain gauge. (body) If using circular, cord length of 32” or greater.
