“Why are we so eager to abandon garter stitch as beginners and return to it as experts?” -- astitchtowear

Garter stitch: meditative, reassuring, familiar, comforting. It is the first stitch most of us learn to make, and, honestly, it will probably be the last stitch most of us remember. And in between, it takes us on amazing journeys, letting us play with color, shape and texture.

The Full Circle Scarf/Wrap is worked section-by-section, building on itself to create a warm and cozy accessory. The center panel filled with chevrons is worked first; then, each side panel is picked up and worked in stripes; and the top and bottom end panels are picked up and worked last.

I used Huntington by Valley Yarns, which has a great range of colors so you can choose as I did, picking two neutrals and a bright, or go for a gradient effect or all-out brights.

In fingering weight yarn, you will need a total of 600 yards of Color A (shown here in Dark Grey Heather); 550 yards of Color B (shown here in Light Grey Heather; and 135 yards of Color C (shown here in Sunset).

A US size 4 (3.5mm) needle is used to get 20 sts/48 rows = 4” in garter stitch, and you will need a US size 4 (3.5mm) 40” circular needle for picking up the side panels.

The finished measurements are a width of 15.25” and a length of 62”.

You need to know how to knit, how to work increases and decreases, and how to pick up stitches.

A diagram is included to show you clearly where to pick up stitches for each section.
