In the quintessential “This Is Halloween” song that introduces the audience to the spooky world of Halloween Town and its inhabitants, we see Oogie Boogie’s shadow across the moon, morphing into a cauldron of bats. While all the other residents of Halloween Town are harmless monsters who were born into a supernatural world and love a harmless scare, Oogie is the only character in the film intent on actual harm and maliciousness. However, creator Tim Burton doesn’t view him as evil, saying, “The Nightmare Before Christmas is a happy story with no truly bad characters. Everyone is trying to do something good and just gets a little mixed up along the way.” Despite being the film’s main antagonist and only having ten minutes of screen time, Oogie is still a fan favorite.

In this town of Halloween, fill your knitting to the brim with fright! Designed to be worn with a slouchy fit, this beanie is worked in the round from the bottom up beginning with an easy 1x1 ribbed brim. A band of stranded colorwork featuring flapping bats surrounding Oogie’s menacing shadow on the moon wreathes the wearer, topped off with simple decreases to close up the crown. Beware!
