Looking for an interesting hat to knit? Look no further than this Slouchy Hat pattern!

I created this pattern with the beginner in mind, but it’s interesting enough to keep more seasoned knitters engaged.

The Slouchy Hat features a rib edging, with an upside down triangle stitch pattern.

It’s knit flat, so it’s beginner friendly.

You’ll keep the triangle pattern through the decreases, then seam the hat closed.

Optionally, you can add a fun pom pom to the top! Instructions include a DIY tutorial, as well as a link to a pom pom making tool.

YARN
The suggested yarn is Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick, which is a super bulky yarn.

Any super bulky should work just fine, though!

If you choose the suggested yarn, you’ll need 1 skein. This is enough to knit the hat and if you decide to make a pom pom, you’ll have enough yarn for that too.

NEEDLES & NOTIONS
US 13 / 9.0 mm needles. I used circulars, but straight needles will work, too.

You will need a tapestry needle, small scissors and either cardboard to create a pom pom template OR a pom pom making tool (one option is linked in the pattern).

GAUGE
11 stitches and 16 rows in 4”, using stockinette as the basis for gauge. This is unstretched.

SIZING
The finished diameter of the hat is about 24” unstretched so this should fit most adult heads.

This would not be ideal for children, as it would be too slouchy for them.

NOTES
Construction: this hat is knit flat, beginning with a rib cast on and followed by the “upside down triangle” stitch pattern. The stitch pattern is carried through the entire body, including the decreases for the crown.

The hat is then cast off when 3 stitches remain. At that point, you’ll seam the hat closed and can then create / attach a pom pom if you’d like.

I LOVE seeing people knit my patterns and make them their own - if you could tag @charminglymodern and #CozyScarf on Instagram or Facebook that would be great!
