I designed this scarf for my Lace Knitting class and tried to include as many fundamental techniques as possible. You are given two choices for the edging which increases the options to customize the scarf.

This lace scarf is wonderful for beginners and experienced lace knitters. You can use it as an introduction to some of the fundamental techniques of lace knitting: provisional cast on, directional decreases, yarn overs before and after purl stitches and knitted on edgings. It mimics a standard Shetland Stole construction, in that the center and one border are knitted first. Then the provisional stitches are picked up and the second border is knitted.

It is a great way to practice these techniques before jumping into a major lace project.

The expamples use approximately 365.8m (400 yds) of fingering weight yarn. However it will work in any weight of yarn. Just follow the yardage requirements when substituting.
