Fungus Crossover
Description
Fungus Crossover is a feminine oversized drop-shoulder cardigan with a short fit, featuring a stunning double-height moss stitch pattern. This crossover is knitted from the top down, starting with a ribbed neckband. Stitches are picked up along the neckband to create the yoke, which is worked back and forth in the moss stitch pattern. Increases are made on both sides of the three shoulder stitches in every row. Additionally, increases occur on both sides of the neckband during all frontside rows to shape the front pieces. These increases continue until the body is complete, ensuring the front pieces are wide enough to overlap the body. The shoulder increases persist until the cardigan reaches the correct width, after which they stop. The front and back pieces are then worked separately until the armhole reaches the desired depth. The work is joined, and the body is knitted back and forth, finishing with an attached ribbed edge. Stitches are picked up along the armhole for the sleeves, which extend to the wrists and taper gradually. The crossover is secured with a button placed in the side seam on each side of the ribbed band—one visible button on the front left side and one hidden button on the back right side. The front opening (V-neck) is fastened with a concealed button on the back of the overlapping ribbed band.

Finished Measurements
Bust circumference: approx. 99 (104) 110 (118) 122 (130) 135 (140) cm.
Sleeve length measured from under the armhole: approx. 41 (42) 44 (46) 46 (46) 46 (46) cm.
Body length measured from the center back (CB), including neck and transverse rib band: approx. (50) 53 (59) 60 (64) 66 (67) cm.
The crossover is designed with a movement allowance of 10-20 cm, depending on whether you prefer a tight or loose fit. The model in the photo has a bust measurement of approximately 84 cm and is wearing a size XS. Aiming for a larger movement allowance for smaller sizes and a smaller allowance for larger sizes is recommended. Additionally, it is advised to assess the crossover’s length before attaching the final ribbed band.
Materials
250 (250) 250 (300) 300 (300) 300 (350) 350 g No Waste Wool from Knitting for Olive (225 m/50 g)
or 250 (250) 250 (300) 300 (300) 300 (350) 350 g Merino from Knitting for Olive (250 m/50 g)
held together with 125 (125) 125 (150) 150 (150) 150 (175) 175 g Soft Silk Mohair from Knitting for Olive (225 m/25 g). You can also use other equal qualities, e.g., Isager Tweed and Silk Mohair held together—both qualities from Isager Yarn. Alpaca 1 from Isager Yarn can also be a great alternative to Silk Mohair.
The crossover in the photo is knitted in No-Waste Wool held together with Soft Silk Mohair in the color Chocolate, both from Knitting for Olive.
In addition to yarn, you will need three buttons: I used one burnt wood duffle coat button, size 30 mm (visible button on the front), one button, approx. 15 mm (hidden button on the back), one button, approx. 12 mm (hidden button on the back to fix the V-neck), and six stitch markers.
Suggested Needles
The crossover is knitted in double-height moss stitch back and forth on 4 mm circular needles (80 cm) with one strand of each yarn quality.
All ribbed edges are knitted on 3 mm circular needles (80 cm).
Double-pointed needles are used for the part of the ribbed band running along the neck and for the start and finish of the final transverse ribbed edge on the body. Three needles are needed.
I recommend the Magic Loop method for knitting the sleeves and sleeve ribbing. If you do not use the Magic Loop method, you will also need one 4 mm circular needle (40 cm) and one 3 mm circular needle (40 cm).
Gauge
18 sts x 26/27 rows = 10 x 10 cm on size 4 mm needles in double-height moss stitch, worked back and forth.
