Backyard chickens are fun to have around, and the fancy Golden Laced Polish variety are no exception, with their fancy bouffant crest of head feathers. Their head feathers obscure their vision, resulting in funky movement and behavior at times. They were the inspiration for these cuff-down socks and my matching Funky Polish Chicken mitts.

The cuff is worked with twisted stitches for a clean look. Bobbles along the cuff edge resemble eggs, as does the toe striping. The textured foot stitch represents chicken wire fencing. Optional head feathers are added as an embellishment.

Sock size can easily be increased with extra stitches between chicken motifs, or decreased with smaller needles/tighter gauge.

For an 8.5” long size M sock, designer used 14g/62yds green, 4g/18yds white, 7g/31yds variegated brown, 5g/22yds yellow, and 46g/212yds grey yarn.
