Introduction: This is a practical cowl to solve two pressing problems in my life. First: my neck is always cold at the gap where my coat zips up, but a scarf often does not cover the chest and a shawl many times slides down the neck or is too bulky. The funnel shape of this cowl keeps the neck covered up to the jawline while also spreading out to smoothly cover the bodice with minimal bulk and maximum warmth. Second: I have a worsted-weight-sweater-knitting problem. I love knitting (and wearing!) these sweaters, but then I end up with half-finished balls of my favorite worsted weight yarn. The stranded colorwork of this cowl uses up some scraps while also providing an extra layer of warmth. Double win!

Techniques Required: Stranded knitting with short floats. M1 increases. All colorwork is charted.

Materials:
Yarn: Worsted weight yarn such as Malabrigo Rios (210 yds / 100g) with at least 70g of main color and around 25g each of four contrast colors.
You can adjust the number of contrast colors as you (and your stash) see fit. 
I used Malabrigo Rios in the following colors and amounts: 60g Sandbank (MC), 25g Sabiduria (CC1), 20g Solis (CC2), 15g English Rose (CC3), 15g Pearl Ten (CC4)

Needles: 
Use needles to match gauge as larger needles and needles two sizes smaller for ribbing.
I used US 8 (5.0mm) in 16” (40cm) and 24” (60cm) circular cable as gauge needle and US 6 (4.0mm) in 16” (40 cm)
circular cable for ribbing.

Notions: Tapestry needle, stitch markers.

Gauge: 22 sts / 20 rounds = 4” square in stranded colorwork using larger needle.

Size: One size. 18” wide at the top, 36” wide at the bottom. 12” tall.
