The furcula is more commonly known as the “wishbone“. I remember my mom often saving the wishbone when I was a child. She would let it dry on the window sill for a number of days, and then my brother and I would each grab an end, make a wish and pull until the wishbone snapped. Whoever held the larger end was the one whose wish would be granted. The stitch pattern in this cowl reminds me of those wishbones, and the magical moments of anticipation, full of hope that my wish would come true.
