Gabriel Holiday Socks
This sock features a field of stars (star stitch) and columns of angels (Lovely Stitches V2: 35 Lace Cables by Annie Maloney) using the Flying Buttress Heel architecture developed by Gabriela Langer of Alpine Adventures. I’m naming this sock Gabriel after the messenger angel of many religions. Pattern includes 2 options for toe style and heel pattern. This sock is easy to work, especially if you have some experience knitting yo, ssk, k2tog, p3tog, k3tog, nupps or bobbles, 2/3, 2/1, and 1/1 cables. The size medium sock circumference without stretching measures: at the ball of foot ~ 6.75 inches (17 cm) and around instep and back of heel ~ 9.5 inches (24 cm). Length from the bottom of heel to top of cuff is ~8.25 inches (21 cm) and from toe to heel ~8.25 inches (21 cm).
Sizes S small (M medium, L large)
To Fit Foot: with circumference at ball of foot of ~8 (9, 10”) ~21.5 (22, 24) cm. Total stitch count 58 (66, 74). Sock has generous stretch and leg has added stitches.
Gauge
~9 stitches, 12 rows per inch in stockinette; ~35 stitches, 47 rows per 10 cm
Needle(s)
Recommendation: Sample knit with 1 circular needle US 1 (2.25 mm), but can be worked with double-points or 2 circular needles. Use needle size or sock size that will work with your yarn or gauge.
Yarn
1 skein fingering weight sock yarn. Beige Sample used: Miss Babs, Yummy 2-ply, SW merino, 400 yd/100g, color White Peppercorn. Yardage needed varies depending upon your gauge, sock size, as well as foot and leg length. Choose yarn with intrinsic stretch and firm twist in solid, tonal, or wide stripes for the easiest knitting and best showing of stitch pattern.
Other
3 closed stitch markers, cable needle, darning needle. Optional: one double-point needle same size as working needles or smaller.
