Gala G is another pattern in the series of easy-to-knit shawls for beginners who are no longer satisfied with just knit and purl garments and are adventurous enough to try something slightly more complicated.

Gala G is a rectangular shawl, designed to meet the specific needs of heavyweight decorative yarn, in my case it’s Louisa Harding Grace Hand Beaded.

The yarn turned out too heavy for a real lace pattern, and on the other hand it desperately required some lace to make the shawl look lighter. And Gala design is a compromise between these two restrictions.

The shawl is knit loosely on large size needles and then blocked vigorously – all that to make it lacy, drapey and to show off to the most the beauty of the yarn.

The shawl is easy to knit, intuitive with the row repeat easy to memorise. What’s more, it’s a quick knit on larger size needles.

Yarn: you can use any heavierweight yarn that blocks well, either beaded or not. You can also add beads at random while knitting.

My shawl is done in Louisa Harding Grace Hand Beaded, 74 yards/67.5m in a 50g hank, I used up almost 7 hanks / 500yards/457m on US 8 = 5mm needles to obtain a shawl that measures 18x63” / 45x160cm.

Needles: depending on the yarn you use and on your knitting style – the tighter knitter you are, the bigger size needles you should use.

Level: beginner, you need to know how to knit, purl, k2tog, ssk and yo. The most difficult element is the provisional cast on, I provide a link to the easiest method of doing it.

Gala G to kolejny z serii wzorów ażurowych dla początkujących dziewiarek, które chcą wyjść poza dzierganie prawe/lewe, i którym marzy się samodzielne stworzenie szala lub chusty.

Jako, że osobom mniej wprawnym trudność sprawia dzierganie z cieniutkiej włóczki, wymyśliłam szal, w którym spróbowałam połączyć ażurowy wzór i grubszą włóczkę.

Gala G powinna być dziergana na grubych drutach i energicznie blokowana. W ten sposób nawet zwykłe oczka prawe ‘otwierają się’ i nabierają cech ażuru, szal nabiera lekkości i wdzięku.

Włóczka: każdy rodzaj grubej włóczki, który się dobrze blokuje. Może to być włóczka z dodanymi koralikami, można też samodzielnie dodawać koraliki w dowolnych miejscach, na chybił trafił lub regularnie w tych samych miejscach.

Mój szal powstał z Louisa Harding Grace Hand Beaded, to włóczka o składzie merynos/jedwab plus koraliki, ciężka i lejąca. Zużyłam prawie 350g / 475m, szal ma wymiary 45x160cm.

Druty: ich rozmiar każdy musi dostosować indywidualnie, do grubości włóczki oraz do sposobu dziergania.

Umiejętności: oczka prawe i oczka lewe, dwa oczka razem, narzuty. Najtrudniejszym elementem wzoru jest prowizoryczne narzucanie oczek, ale podaję też link do bardzo szczegółowego tutorialu w języku polskim :)
