Fall is near and time for knitting more socks! Galatea Lakes Socks Pattern is a lacey cable top-down mid-calf sock and is rated as intermediate skill level. These socks are lightweight and perfectly enjoyable to knit and wear as the weather turns cooler.

I’ve named the pattern after one of my favorite hikes in the Canadian Rockies - Galatea Lakes. The pattern requires some attention to the charting and results in a glorious motif.

The yarn used is fingering weight and the construction is top-down, with a 1x1 twisted rib cuff, a heel flap and a lace and cable design. These socks use 230-260m/ 251-282 yds/ 59-66g of fingering yarn.

I have made the socks in size 1 (Medium) using 1 skein (100g/ 3.5 oz.) of Olann Sock Lite Yarn in Sionnach which is a deep slightly variegated dark brown (80% Wool/ 20% Nylon).

Substituting other fingering weight sock yarns would be appropriate. Solid or semi-variegated colors are most suitable to show off the intricate lace.

Sizes: 1 - Medium (2 - Large)
This pattern has been tested in all sizes.

Materials Needed:

  • 1 skein (100g/ 3.5oz) of fingering weight yarn (solid or semi-solid colour is best)
  • Size US 1/2.25mm Double Pointed Needles (or circulars if you prefer Magic Loop)
  • Stitch markers
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle
  • Blocking tools (sock blockers)

The instructions for the construction of the socks are written and the lace pattern is also charted.

A huge thank you to all my test knitters for their hard work, feedback and encouragement. I am grateful as always.
