Galaxy Swirl Beanie
Swirling galaxies come down to earth in the form of this beanie pattern with variations for 3, 5 or 7 colour swirls in each of 3 sizes.
VARIATION
Use 2 strands of fingering instead of 1 strand of DK weight yarn.
If using 2 strands, consider holding 1 strand constant and change the second strand to create a marled effect for the contrast colours, or make the constant strand mohair to add a halo to your galaxy.
SIZES
To fit head circumference of approx:
Child: 48cm to 51cm (19” to 20”)
Teen/Adult Small: 51cm to 54.5cm (20” to 21.5”)
Adult Medium/Large: 54.5cm to 58.5cm (21.5” to 23”)
Cover photo shows Adult Medium/Large size in 7 colour variation modelled on a man with head circumference of 58.5cm/23” and Teen/Adult Small size in the 3 colour variation on a woman with head circumference of 54cm/21”. The pompom on the Adult Medium/Large hat was made using a 6.5cm/2.5” pompom maker. The faux fur pompom on the Teen/Adult Small hat is from Lovely Loops Design.
MATERIALS
Yarn: DK weight yarn in Main (MC) and Contrast (CC) colours. I used Heathermaid DK Bliss 100% Wool 200m per 100g (218yds per 4oz) MC Silver Grey, CCs Colour Set in Classic Rainbow
The Adult Medium/Large hat is shown in the 7 colour variation with a fold up brim and used approx. 19g (38m/ 42yds) MC and 8g (16m/18yds) of each CC.
The Teen/Adult Small hat is shown in the 3 colour variation with a single brim and was made using fingering weight yarn held double. It used approx. 15g (80m/88yds) MC and 15g (76m/83yds) of each CC. The yarns were from Jelly Bean Fibres, Ozifarmer’s Market, Dingo Dyeworks and Heathermaid.
