Galdur (Icelandic for magic) is worked with a thick yarn and big needles so it practically knits itself.

Galdur has a little magic to it. Not only because of the incredibly soft 100% wool (DROPS Eskimo) wich makes it both warm and breathable but because it grows with the baby! While the baby is very young Galdur will cover the little one all the way up to the chin. The hood is rather wide and can be left unbuttoned so it should not be to warm. As the baby grows he can wear the bag up to the arms or waist with the hood unbuttoned under his head or shoulders. By then you can of course remove the buttons. Alternatively you can turn Galdur over so the hood covers the baby’s chest.

Included in the pattern are two ways of knitting Galdur. The original way where I used several different techniques (somewhat detail oriented) and a simpler way which looks almost the same.
When I started to write the pattern I conclusively decided that eight repeats of Chevron would look better than seven. This is for example apparent on the bottom of Galdur (on the photo) where you can see three and a half “leaves”, instead of four which you will get in the pattern. All stitches and meassurements have been changed in the pattern accordingly.

Svefnpokinn Galdur er prjónaður úr þykku garni með tilheyrandi grófum prjónum svo hann er fljótunninn.
Galdurinn í þessum poka felst í því að hann vex með barninu. Á meðan barnið er mjög ungt er hægt að pakka því inn og setja í Galdur. Hann nær þá alla leið upp að höku og hettan hlífir höfðinu. Eftir því sem barnið stækkar getur það notað Galdur upp að höndum eða mitti. Þá er hægt að leggja óhneppta hettuna undir höfuð eða axlir og auðvitað einfalt að fjarlægja þá tölurnar. Einnig er hægt að snúa Galdri við og leggja hettuna yfir bringu barnsins.
Í uppskriftinni fylgja tvær leiðir til að prjóna Galdur, sú upprunalega þar sem ég datt svolítið í alls kyns tæknilegar lausnir og að prófa ólíka hluti og önnur leið sem er mun einfaldari en lítur nánast eins út.
Þegar ég settist niður og fór að skrifa niður uppskriftina að Galdri ákvað ég svo að hafa átta endurtekningar í Chevron-mynstrinu í stað sjö, þar sem það lítur betur út. Þetta sést t.d. neðst á pokanum þar sem sjá má 3 1/2 tungu á myndinni en þær verða fjórar í uppskriftinni. Öll mál og lykkjufjöldi hafa verið uppfærð til samræmis við þessa breytingu.
