Gales of November Hat Bulky
There are some beautiful spiral hat patterns out there right now, and I have enjoyed knitting many of them. I started dreaming up my own spin on this style a while ago but for the life of me I couldn’t figure out how to get the math right - it took so many failed attempts to get this pattern just right, and I am so happy with it now. The Super Bulky version has been out for awhile, but I spent this spring working on this Bulky version.
I’ve named this hat after the Gales of November. Each year as winter approaches extreme winds kick up waves on Lake Superior, in some spots sending water churning hundreds of feet up the sides of cliffs along the shore. It’s a beautiful, tumultuous sight to see the waves rolling in over and over.
This hat is knit with Bulky yarn. Suggested yarns shown are
Malabrigo Noventa and Baah Sequoia, but you can use any
bulky yarn you can achieve gauge with. Lighter bulky yarns are not a good fit for the pattern as written, but an experienced knitter could easily adjust the cast on amount to make this pattern work with lighter bulky yarns if needed.
The pattern has instructions for 3 sizes with tips
to adapt it easily to your size needs.
