This is a versatile all-seasons hoodie. Wear it in the summer over a sundress or shorts, or layer it over a long-sleeved shirt and jeans in the colder months. Little details, such as the curved, ribbed edges of the kangaroo pocket, and the short row capped sleeves, make this casual garment just tailored enough to be timeless and ageless.
The hoodie is a simple top-down knit. The hood and pocket are picked up and knit after completing the body of the garment. Detailed photographic instructions are included for knitting and attaching the pocket. The only seaming is along 3 edges of the pocket and along the short edge along the bottom of the neck opening.
While the pattern is written for a cropped, short sleeved garment, it is easy to add length to the sleeves and the body due to the top-down construction.
The hoodie is named after Galiano Island in British Columbia, Canada. This is one of the most beautiful and peaceful gulf islands. The landscape photos among the pattern photos on this page were taken on Galiano Island. It seemed appropriate to select this name as the lovely vibrant yarn, used for this pattern, is hand-dyed in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Techniques used: Top-down knit in the round, three needle bind off, mattress stitch, short rows.
