Introducing the Gambit Cardi - a Spring wardrobe essential that’s perfect for knitters of all levels! This cardigan features a classic fit with a nod to mid-60s fashion, inspired by The Queen’s Gambit. The sophisticated design elements include stockinette, cable button band, a touch of seed stitch on the collar, button band, cuffs, and hem, as well as tidy i-cord edging for clean lines.
Knit top-down flat with no steeking, Gambit Cardi is an engaging beginner-friendly project with enough design elements to keep even seasoned knitters entertained. The chic, slightly structured fit and elbow-length sleeves make it a stylish and infinitely wearable addition to your hand-knit wardrobe.
This cardigan is perfect when paired with a sunny retro minidress or crisp modern separates, and it’s a straightforward knit with lots of personality!
Gambit is ideal for the beginner garment knitter for several reasons: it’s knitted in DK weight yarn for a quick project, it’s seamless and worked back and forth, and the unfussy fit offers lots of flexibility. Plus, the basic design elements provide a great opportunity to build your repertoire of stitches. Get started on your Gambit Cardi today!

Buttons/Closure
The cleverly designed cables along the button band of Gambit Cardi double as buttonholes, providing you with the flexibility to use buttons of your choice. We recommend 5/8” buttons placed between the 3rd and 4th row of seed stitches (counting in from the i-cord edge), starting at the second cable from the top and ending at the second cable from the bottom, for a total of 5 buttons.
This design element makes Gambit Cardi customizable to your unique style. If you prefer not to use buttons, feel free to omit them. If you like smaller buttons, add more and attach them at every cable instead! Can’t decide? Share pictures with us on Instagram at @wool.and.pine.designs.
