Gangstar
This pattern is temporarily closed for re-decoration :)
This is a fun, quick knit - a child’s tank top with bandana neckline. Kids love it and the pattern is quite adaptable. The stars can be placed to reflect a cowboy, military or patriotic theme or leave it plain if you prefer!
Materials needed
1 x pair of 3 1/4 mm straight knitting needles.
1 x pair of 3 1/4mm circular needles, (40cm cable length for the small to medium sizes and 60cm for the large).
I x pair of 4mm straight needles.
1 x pair of 4mm circular needles, (40cm cable length for the smaller sizes and 60cm for the medium to large).
(4, 5, 5), (6, 6, 7, 7) x 50g balls of DK, (8ply), (22 sts and 30 rows = 10 x 10 cm on 4mm needles)
Images show Gangstar knitted in Skeinz Harvest DK, Geranium and Skeinz Urban DK, Coffee.
Oddment of white DK to work stars, (sewn on using Cover Stitch).
6 x stitch holders.
Techniques involved
Gangstar is knitted circular until the armholes, where it is divided to knit flat.
The shoulders are joined using the 3-needle bind off, which is described in the pattern.
There is short row shaping in this pattern and the knitter will need to know how to ‘wrap and turn’. If you are not familiar with this technique there are some excellent photo and video tutorials on the internet and it is well worth learning as short rows open up a whole world of possibilities and are quite easy once you know how.
The star/s are sewn on using Cover Stitch, so that the knitter can place them where s/he likes. There is a photo-tutorial for this technique included in the pattern and also on the Theatre Of Yarns website.
The pattern includes a chart for a single star.
Other standard stitches used are: k, p, k2tog, p2tog, p2togtbl, ssk and there is a solitary p3tog.
