Gansey Hat for Everyone
Eight hat sizes in three popular gauges (6 - 5 ½ - 5 sts/inch)! That’s 24 options to fit everyone. Find your gauge, find the size you want, and start knitting!
This hat was inspired by my Baby Gansey Sweater and Hat Pattern. I just couldn’t stop!! (The Baby Gansey Sweater Pattern includes the hat pattern in baby sizes only).
Hat sizing depends on style, preference, yarn characteristics, etc. The labels are meant to give you a general idea of size, but choose by the numbers. Most people prefer a hat with negative ease (meaning it is 2-3 inches smaller than the head circumference). Given all the variables, the many options provided should help you find something that fits both your gauge and the intended wearer!
I did not make all 24 hats (!), but did knit a sampling of them. The pictures show different yarns used and yardages.
The Gansey Motif is on the front only. The back is Moss Stitch.

Skills Needed
Gansey Motif is charted only; knitting in the round, simple yarnover pattern and cables. Photo tutorials are included in separate pdf for certain techniques, and how to make tassels and peppermint stick twisted cord.
NOTE: If you feel that the Gansey motif is too lacy, I have provided a simple alternative that retains the look of the original design.
