As soon as I saw Gap’s Honeycomb scarf, I knew I wanted to make my own version and I daresay that I prefer mine. Making it in a chunky yarn makes it a quick project to knit up so this may make a great last minute Christmas present. The pattern is easy to remember, the twists are done every sixth row. It is also easily portable. I would recommend that you learn how to make cables without a hook : it’s a good skill to have and it reduces the amount of manipulation.

My version is slightly different: the selvage stitches are only worked on one side and the outer cables are mirrored.

I used Araucania’s Nature Wool Chunky yarn but it is discontinues. Still, an aran or bulky yarn was used. That said if you want to make it a little less Polar Vortex ready, maybe use an acrylic-wool mix.

Make no mistake, this scarf will keep you very warm. In fact, I highly recommend blocking it to take away some of the volume otherwise you may have to wait for the next Polar Vortex to wear this.
