Knit in the round lengthwise and grafted together with an optional half twist, this cowl makes a cozy, fuss-free layer of warmth. The colorwork pattern is easy to memorize and, without any long floats, makes an approachable introduction to stranded knitting for the adventurous beginner.

It is fun to watch the gradually shifting colors unfold while knitting, and the end result is a versatile statement piece.

Instructions are written with a chart for the colorwork pattern. Pattern has been professionally tech edited and tested.

Yarn
• Main color: Ampersand Jensen DK, 1 skein in Oat 03
• Contrast color: Spincycle Dream State, 1 skein in Pale September
• Waste yarn for provisional cast on and holding live stitches during blocking

Or any DK or light worsted yarn of your choice
Main color: approx 224 yards
Contrast color: approx 150 yards

Finished Dimensions
25” / 62.5cm circumference after grafting x 7” / 17.5cm tall

Gauge
23 stitches and 21 rounds = 4” / 10cm (In pattern, knit in the round, unblocked)
23 stitches and 22 rounds = 4” / 10cm (In pattern, knit in the round, wet blocked)

Note: Because I want you to be able to maximize your single skein of Dream State, I have provided the gauge UNBLOCKED to enable reuse of your swatch yarn.

Gauge is somewhat flexible; swatch to achieve a fabric of your liking, ensuring it is dense enough to obscure floats, yet has enough drape to lay in gentle folds. The Jensen DK feels like it’s on the lighter end of the DK weight, but it blooms beautifully, creating a lush, velvety fabric while the Dream State retains its crisp stitch definition. Heavier DK yarns work just as well.
