I love my backyard when the day is new, and weather is most refreshing, before the tropical sun starts its inevitable heating. One morning I noticed some ferns, in all the shades of green that exist. Ferns have a way of holding onto the mist, with the dew collecting like small jewels along the leaves. It was the inspiration for this design, with droplets clinging and sparkling as the sun began to penetrate the shade.

Garden of Ferns is crescent shaped, with garter stitch, eyelets and a fern leaf lace, spreading out to curved ends generated by the picot border. The sections of garter stitch make for a relaxing knitting experience, as do the eyelets. An adventurous beginner will find the lace stitches easy to memorize but will keep seasoned knitters interested.

The cool of morning is a place you can return to throughout the day, with the flush of dawn’s light catching the dewdrops in the green. Small emerald jewels that you can close your eyes and call to your memory. Imagine the quiet and peace in your shady garden of ferns throughout the day when things get hectic, wrapping yourself in the embodiment of your morning solitude.
