My pattern inspiration is from an old counterpane square from the book “Knitting Counterpanes” by Mary Walker Phillips. Every time I look through that book, I get inspired. When I realized the square had a self-repeating stitch pattern in it, all kinds of projects went through my head, but designing a shawl with the stitch pattern was the project I was most excited to start. After completing the body of the shawl, one design element just seemed to flow into another. I had so much fun designing this, and it was a quick knit for me, since I couldn’t wait to see it blocked. I hope you enjoy this pattern as much as I do.

It is knit from the top down and the body of the shawl is a self repeating stitch pattern. That means that as soon as you finish the pattern stitch row repeat you have enough stitches to start another pattern repeat.

I added beads to the pattern just to spice it up a bit, but the beads are optional.
