Man, I’ve been playing with this diagonally-knit triangle shawl structure a lot lately. This is the simplest version of it, boiled down to a minimalist recipe. I’m not even sure if it counts as a pattern, but I like how it knits up, so if you’re looking for an easy alternative to a simple one-row garter-stitch scarf, then hey! Free pattern! Enjoy!

The Garter Stitch Scrap Shawl makes a good, cushy shawl, has attractive diagonal-knit styling to show off stripes and colorblocks created by the scraps, and can be knit in any yarn weight. It’s a good way to gather up and use scraps from special projects, or work souvenir yarns up into an easy knit as you travel.

Gauge:
Gauge varies! Knit it in any yarn weight you like. The sample shawl was knit up using mostly worsted-weight yarns at a pre-blocking gauge of 16sts and 36 rows over 4” in garter stitch.

Materials:
-500+ yards of miscellaneous scrap yarns!
-1 40” circular needle in US7-8/4.5-5.0mm, or size needed for gauge, or size needed for the desired gauge in your chosen yarn.
