Garter Stitch Baby Set
This hat and booties set was designed for my second niece, Whitley, to go along with the Elizabeth Zimmerman “Baby Suprise Jacket.” The jacket is knit flat, then ingeniously seamed to create the final shape. I wanted to use similar techniques to create a matching hat and booties.
This snuggly baby hat and booties are knit in ultra soft BFL 2/8 by Fleece Artist. The hat is knit flat on straight needles using short rows for shaping. The booties begin with the sole, knit flat. Stitches are picked up around the foot and knit back and forth on circular needles, short rows complete the foot. Finish the booties with a seam down the back. The cuff is extra long to keep the booties on tiny feet. A single skein is enough for the hat, booties, and a BSJ jacket with plenty left over.
