This thick, smooshy afghan was designed for an Afghans for Afghans campaign that needed baby blankets for a hospital in Kabul. It its knitted with worsted weight wool held double on US size 15 needles. I recommend circular needles because this will get quite heavy and awkward on straights. I used Lion Wool Prints for the low cost and pretty colors, but any good quality all-wool (or other animal fiber) worsted would work just as well. Gauge isn’t critical, as long as the blanket measures at least 30” x 40” when complete (the minimum required for the A4A campaign). Mine came out several inches larger in both directions. I use between 8 and 10 skeins of Lion Wool Prints when making one of these.
