This shawl design is the result of a knitting Mad Libs game. Nailya Plaskey and Carmen de la Pena each designed a body for a shawl, then swapped projects and designed the edging for each other’s shawls. Kam started with a fun textured pattern, interspersed with delicate elongated stitches. Nailya finished it with dramatic openwork in the second color.

Skill level: advanced beginner to intermediate
Finished dimensions: about 65 in / 165 cm at the top edge, and about 27 in / 68.75 cm from top to bottom
Yarn: fingering weight yarn; about 360 yds / 329 m of main color and 324 yds / 296 m of contrast color, a skein of Leo & Roxy 80/20 Sock base (100g / 365 yds, 80% merino / 20% nylon fingering weight yarn) and a skein of Cosy Posy Yarn Sparkle Sock base (100g / 438 yds, 80% merino / 20% nylon fingering weight yarn) were used for this sample
Needles: circular needle US5 / 3.75 mm or size to obtain gauge with a 40 in / 100 cm cable or longer to accommodate all stitches. Hook size E / 3.50 mm (optional for bind-off)
Gauge: 20 st and 30 rows = 4 in / 10 cm in main body pattern, blocked
