This character, Fernandez, is part of a collection of 4 knitted dolls that I will be publishing in the rest of 2020. Inspired by traditional textile graphics that are repeated throughout of South America. In Argentina and Uruguay we know these graphics as “guarda pampa” and they have an origin in the ancient Andean cultures. I called them “Gauchitos” because their silhouette arises from an investigation I carried out about the morphology of traditional garments worn by gauchos in Uruguay.
These characters can be knitted with straight needles (then joined by an invisible seam) and also in the round with DPN´s and circular needles. Other techniques that are used in its construction are increases, decreases and color change.

Este personaje, Fernández, es parte de una colección de 4 muñecos tejidos que iré publicando en lo que resta del 2020. Inspirada en gráficos textiles tradicionales que se repiten en gran parte de América del Sur. En Argentina y Uruguay conocemos estos gráficos como “guarda pampa” y tienen un origen en las antiguas culturas andinas. Les llamé “Gauchitos” porque su silueta surge de una investigación que realicé sobre la morfología de las prendas tradicionales usada por los gauchos en Uruguay.
Estos personajes se pueden tejer con agujas rectas (luego unidos por medio de una costura invisible) y también en redondo con agujas doble punta y circulares. Otras técnicas que se utilizan en su construcción son aumentos, disminuciones y cambio de color.
