These socks are toe-up and can be knit in any weight from lace to chunky. Custom size or use the size information for ages 2 to Man’s L. Heel is a modified fleegle heel which creates a very decorative effect in stripes. I’m calling this one the the Feleegle heel! (You can also knit a standard fleegle and some testers took this approach).

Sizes
Sizes are finished circumferences and contain negative ease (instructions on choosing your size included in the pattern). Foot lengths are provided as guidance in the pattern but are easily adjustable and I encourage you to modify to fit at will.

Needles:
correct needle size to achieve a good firm gauge that you are comfortable knitting. Pattern is needle neutral, and you may substitute your preferred method of small circumference knitting

Any gauge: but hard wearing socks will be created by knitting firmly.

Yarn and yardage
Use any yarn or yarns that please you. My sample is DK and light worsted yarns in pure wool and striped to make use of scraps. You can can use any combination of yarns with any colour pattern. Adding stitch patterns is also an option if you wish. You’ll get harder wearing socks with yarns that are plied and have a good tight twist. Yardage will be size and yarn weight dependent: allow about 100-300 m/110-330 yds for child sizes and 200-550m/ 220-600yds for adult sizes.

Always allow extra yardage just in case.
