Geanie's Cycling Beanie
This hat was born out of the need to wear something under cycling helmets on cold days. Quite a few of my friends already owned a “regular” Geanie’s Beanie - addition of the brim was a suggestion to help keep rain out of our eyes while riding.
Finished hat measures approx. 21” around and 7.5 - 8” tall. Ribbed pattern allows for flexibility of size.
Instructions for brim & optional ponytail opening are included.
Knowing the hat would be worn commuting in snowy or rainy conditions, the brim presented me with a slight problem. It had to be “stuffed” with something that wouldn’t get A: soggy in the wet (like cardboard will) and B: wouldn’t have a sharp edge (such as plastic) that might cut through the fabric over time and use. And, it had to be hand washable..
Template and instructions for creating brim filler are included.
I feel that whatever yarn you choose to knit with, err on the side of a little “too tight” a gauge, rather than normal or too loose. Wind makes its way through looser stitches fairly easily.
