Geeky Beanie
This pattern is
available for free.
The request was for an X-Wing Fighter on a beanie. This fits the bill.
The beanie is knit from the bottom up, using a stretchy cast-on. The ribbing is worked in the round, but then split to knit flat for the designs in the main part of the hat, mainly because the colorwork was worked using intarsia. (The X-Wing was knit all in white with the detail added later using duplicate stitch.)
Once the colorwork was finished, the knitting goes back to in the round for the crown, using a standard decrease to get to the top. Then the open hole is seamed together using mattress stitch.
Several colors are needed to complete the beanie, but none require a full skein of the yarn (not even the black background color).
