Geeky Sweater
This project originally started off as a sweater for my daughter. I wanted to mix cables with little popcorns and ended up with the design ‘Cable Pop.’ I sent her off to school in her new digs and her preschool teacher saw it and exclaimed, “That is so cute. I would actually wear that for myself!”
And I thought suspiciously to myself, “Would you REALLY?” I’m not sure why I was so skeptical. My daughter’s preschool teacher is younger and stylish and looks like she keeps up with trends and whatnot. This is in stark comparison to me with my frazzled Mom hair and chewed up toddler banana smeared on the thigh area of my pants. Still, I couldn’t put my finger on exactly why I felt the design wouldn’t work for an adult.
Then I had it! It was the pops! I kept picturing the pops falling the wrong way on an adult bust making the wearer look like she had more nipples than a dairy cow. Completely unflattering. So, I did the only logical thing: I got rid of the pops. There. Problem solved.
I decided to add a little extra interest to the design by using Sweet Paprika’s ‘Andante’ which was gloriously soft with great stitch definition and really brought the whole thing together. I highly recommend the splurg because hey! We all need self care, too.
I would say this is a good pattern for an adventurous beginner. If you are familiar with post stitches, it will be a piece of a cake. Which, by the way, also counts as self care. Just sayin.
