Gelen is a modern mix of french navy traditions adapted to fit little heads.
It is at the same time a tribute to the famous Bachi, the traditional beret worn by the french marines, and its striped fabric is also reminiscent of the Rayé, the historic and popular marine blouse. The typical red pompom, which is to be found on each beret, is said to bring luck to whomever touches it!
Worked in the round and in stockinette stitch, the only trick is the construction of the brim which needs a crochet provisional cast-on for its folded hem.
