The Gelly Cube cardigan is a top-down cardigan, knitted both flat and in the round. It is knitted at a loose gauge with a relaxed fit. This garment was designed to be simple but fun. The project
features drop shoulder construction, whimsical sleeves & I-cord. This is a nod to the Gelatinous Cube, a favourite creature of mine from the game Dungeons and Dragons. This pattern lends
itself to being creative, adding stripes where you like, changing the weight of the yarn depending on the season, perhaps opting for summer blends for an even more summery version. Perfect for
the beach, or being a hero of your own story.

Recommended yarn:
The sample uses both a DK-weight and a lace-
weight yarn.

DK-weight yarn, e.g., Chromatic Yarns NSW
Merino DK 100% Non-Superwash Merino
100g - 225m / 246 yds

Lace-weight yarn, e.g.,Chromatic Yarns Fluffy
Lace 75% Mohair and 25% Silk 50g - 420m /
459 yds

Sample uses:

DK: Chromatic Yarns NSW Merino DK in Gelly Cube
Lace: Chromatic Yarns Fluffy Lace in Gelly Cube

Recommended needles:
Main needle - 6.5mm US 10 1/2 large
circumference circular needle (e.g. 80-cm / 32-
inch cable) or needles for your preferred
method for working in the round.

I-cord needle- 6mm US 10 small
circumference circular needle (e.g. 60-cm / 24-
inch cable) or needles for your preferred
method for working I-cord.

Needle size is suggested only. You will need
to swatch to determine the needle size
needed to achieve gauge.

Notions:
Stitch markers, up to 3.
Tapestry needle (for weaving in your ends).
Waste yarn (for placing stitches on hold if you
choose not to use spare cables).
Optional: Fringe (e.g. 6 inch / 15 cm drop
tassel fringe. You will need approximately 1, 2,
2 (2, 2, 2) 2, 2) m.

Sizes:
1, 2, 3 (4, 5, 6) 7, 8
Finished Hip circumference
42.25, 46.25, 53.25 (58.25, 65.75, 73.25) 79.5,
88.5 inches / 107.5, 117.5, 135 (148, 167, 186)
201.5, 225 cm
The intended ease is 4 - 8 inches / 10 - 20 cm
of positive ease compared to your hip
measurement. For example, if your hips are 40
inches / 101.5 cm you would knit size 2 with a
finished chest circumference of 46.25 / 115.5
inches for 6.25 inches / 15.5 cm of positive
ease.

Yardage:
These are the amounts of each yarn required.
MC is the DK-weight yarn and CC is the lace-
weight yarn

MC DK: 290, 319, 349 (380, 412, 442) 483,
528 m / 317, 349, 382 (416, 451, 483) 528,
577 yd / 126, 139, 152 (165, 179, 192) 210,
229 g

CC: 529, 563, 613 (647, 697, 781) 815, 890
m / 579, 616, 670 (708, 762, 854) 891, 973
yd / 63, 67, 73 (77, 83, 93) 97, 106 g

A few testers used up to 150m more than
these CC estimates, a few added length and
another held 4-ply double, but I don’t want
anyone caught short.

If you choose to use a lace-weight/
fingering-weight yarn for your MC, I would
advise you to hold it double for the I-cord
edging and for the bind-off on the hem.
This will provide more structure and
sturdiness
