Gem Mitts
Gem Mitts are a sweet and feminine twist on the classic fingerless mittens. The gem stitch pattern replaces ribbing on the upper and lower cuffs, as well as the thumb. This fun and pretty pattern is perfect for beginning knitters or a great gift for friends and family made by knitters of all skill levels!
Skill Level:
Beginner
Techniques Used:
Knitting in the round, increases, and reading a stitch pattern.
Sizes:
Small (Medium, Large) to fit palm circumference: 7 (7.5, 8) in / 18 (19, 20) cm.
Mitts shown are in size Small with approx 0.5 in of negative ease.
Finished Measurements:
Palm circumference: 6.5 (7, 7.5) in / 16.5 (18, 19.) cm.
Length: 6.25 in / 16 cm.
Yarn:
Quince & Co’s Chickadee (100% American wool, 181 yd / 166 m per 50g skein).
Shown in Sorbet.
One skein OR approx 125 yd / 115 m sport weight or light DK yarn.
This pattern would show off hand dyed yarn beautifully!
Needles:
Stockinette stitch: US #4 / 3.5 mm OR needle size to obtain the correct gauge.
Gem stitch: US #3 / 3.25 mm
Choose your preferred method for small circumference knitting: DPNs, magic loop, small circumference circular needles, etc.
Notions:
Stitch markers (3), waste yarn, and a tapestry needle.
Gauge:
27 sts and 41 rnds = 4 in / 10 cm in stockinette stitch on US #4 / 3.5 mm needles in the round after blocking.
