Jump on the Caron Cakes bandwagon with me and play with COLOR! This blanket is a simple modification of the traditional granny square but it lends itself really well to experimenting with higher contrast colors since the rounds are weighted differently. And because it’s worked in the round, you can simply keep adding rounds until the blanket reaches the size you want or until you run out of yarn, which is my favorite way to decide a blanket’s final dimensions, ha ha. Enjoy!

This pattern is available for FREE on my website! The small fee for the pdf file you can download here, which includes additional photos for the initial joining and finishing as a bonus feature, helps me continue to be able to do what I love and share it with you! This blanket is also the project for my Color Pop Crochet: Working with High Contrast Colors class on Skillshare. If you prefer learning in video format, you will get the pattern pdf for free when you enroll in the class!

BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY:
-Single Crochet
-Double Crochet

SUGGESTED MATERIALS:
-Worsted Weight (4) Yarn in two colors
-H/5.0mm Crochet Hook
-Stitch Marker(s)
-Scissors
-Small Darning Needle

A NOTE ON GAUGE:
Gauge isn’t overly important with this project. Simply choose a hook size that gives you a fabric you like the look and feel of with the yarn you’ve selected. For your reference, though, my gauge using Caron Cakes and Party worked out to be approximately 3.25” across the first four rounds.

For my Electric Lime Blanket, which measured approximately 35” across, I used 2 Caron Cakes in Lemon Lime and 2 skeins Caron Simply Soft Party in Fuchsia Sparkle.

The Lite Brite Blanket measured about 43” across and used 7 skeins Caron Simply Soft Party in Black Sparkle and 1 Caron Cake in Rainbow Sprinkles.
