These mitts have delicate twisting mock cable columns that circle around little embroidered spots of colour. Almost all the texture comes from quick and easy mock cables, with only a little use a cable needle to make the rings around the spots.

The spots are very simple to embroider- no prior experience of embroidery is needed and full instructions are given.

The mitts use 155m (170 yards) of 4-ply (fingering) yarn. The spots look particularly nice embroidered in a thinner yarn than you knit the mitts in but anything up to 4-ply weight works. The little cards of silky Fyberspates Gleem laceweight yarn are perfect here (a pair of mitts uses 4.5m of Gleem) but scraps of laceweight to 4-ply/fingering yarn from stash, or colourfast, washable embroidery threads would work.

The cables make the mitts stretchy. They block to a stretchy 8.5cm wide, 18.5cm long, equivalent to small to large women’s sizing

There are two versions of this pattern that you can download, one entirely charted and one version that has written instructions, with just the cable circles section charted.

Please make Ravelry projects of your owl Gemstone Mitts- I’d really love to see them!
