An updated take on a traditional counterpane blanket, the Generational Throw incorporates elements found in the designer’s own yard: Bobbled butterflies pop off the fabric and whimsical flowers blossom from the corners. This blanket consists of 24 motifs that are worked separately then joined.

Yarn Sugar Bush Yarns Bold (100% extra fine superwash Merino wool; 190 yd 174 m/ 3 ½ oz 100 g): #3017 Silver Islet, 9 balls.

Needles Size 6 (4 mm): 24” or longer circular (cir). Size 10 (6 mm): straight. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions Removable markers (m); 2 cable needles (cn); size J/10 (6 mm) crochet hook; cotton balls (for blocking embossed leaves); tapestry needle.

Gauge 17 sts and 30 rows = 4” in St st on smaller needle.

• This counterpane consists of twenty-four motifs that are worked separately and sewn together.

• On Chart B, Rows 2 and 4, the “p on WS“ stitches are correct (they are not an error).

• When assembling the squares, pin at a few pattern lines to keep the seams accurate. It is often easier to begin at one of the pattern lines, leaving a tail long enough to finish the seam in the other direction. Wait to weave in seaming ends until the seam is crossed by another seam or the border. This way you will have yarn in place to close any gaps.
