Gentle Waves
I’ve been on the look out for a cosy hat pattern for a while now – I like one that comes down over my ears to keep out the cold wintery winds and I decided to make my own pattern eventually so I could use my hand dyed chunky yarn too.
I chose the name and stitch pattern to represent the ripples we can have with the smallest of actions. The changes we can make in the world by showing kindness and helping others. The gentle waves that happen when we stand up for what we believe in. In this time of awakening and, hopefully, better awareness, the Gentle Waves hat helps remind us to always show kindness and understanding – the world needs more of that!
Made with my chunky yarn, this is a simple and quick knit and I’d love to see your finished hats. You can share them with me by email (hennpennymakes@hotmail.com), on Instagram (@hennypennymakes) or Facebook (HennyPennyMakes).
Materials
1 x 100g (100m) chunky weight yarn – I used my own (HennyPennyMakes) hand dyed chunky yarn but there are lots of options out there so find what works best for you or stash dive!
5.5 mm circular needles (40cm length)
5.5 mm double pointed needles (for the crown decreases)
Cable needle
Stitch marker (use this to mark the beginning of the round and slip the marker before following the pattern for each row)
Hat circumference: This fits my 22inch head perfectly (unblocked) but there is still a little room to stretch it and blocking may increase this. If the hat depth isn’t enough, you could add a couple more rounds before beginning the decreases (I had approx 12g of yarn left over so you should have enough if you need to do this).
