This is a modular hat in one size (c. 20” in circumference), though a smaller size (18”) can be achieved by using a size smaller needle. The body contains four triangles knitted as a strip, joined to form a circle. Brim and crown are picked up from the body. When picking up stitches around the brim, avoid picking up too few, and bind off loosely and/or use a flexible bind-off technique. The brim has to be flexible.

Materials: 150 yards superbulky wool or wool blend (choose a lofty yarn, not overly dense) Model uses Berroco Dash, 98% wool, 2% nylon, 100 grams, 230 yds.

Tools: 16-inch circular and double-pointed needles, size 15, or size required to achieve gauge; 16-inch circular needle, size 11, for brim. Gauge: 3 sts/inch (22 sts/7 ins.)

Stitch Patterns: Garter stitch (flat), K every row; garter stitch (in round), K 1 row, P 1 row
