The stars move across the Universe following beautiful geometric patterns. We can witness this cosmic dance from our place on Earth and understand how those movements relate to what happens to life on this planet. Here in Abya Yala, the astronomic events are tightly related to textile art: many cultures use woven patterns to represent the Sun’s transit during different times of the year. That sacred geometry is what inspired this shawl as I observed the path that sunlight traces inside my house.

About this shawl
This is a triangular shawl worked from the top down with a basic construction, so it’s perfect for beginners or those in need of a not too challenging project. It’s worked mostly using stockinette stitch, but I added a little bit of spice in the form of mosaic knitting and embroidery stitch. Most triangular shawls use yarn overs for increasing, I’m keeping them at each end, but in the center I use a different kind of slanted increases and I slip the middle stitch to create a powerful straight line. Oh, and there’s a fringe at the end that immediately draws attention to it. It uses two skeins of fingering weight yarn.

Construction overview
Geometría Sagrada starts with a garter tab cast on with the main color and then it grows by using 4 increases in every right side row. The first section is worked in stockinette stitch, then in the middle section you will combine different bands using garter, mosaic and embroidery stitches and adding a contrasting color. In the third section you will be back at your main color and using stockinette stitch one more time just to balance everything out and in the final section you will work the ruffles with your constrasting color. There’s going to be a LOT of stitches down there, so this experience will be a great way to exercise your patience and dedication.

Las estrellas se mueven en el Universo siguiendo hermosos patrones geométricos. Somos testigos de esa danza cósmica desde nuestro lugar en la Tierra y podemos comprender cómo esos movimientos se relacionan con lo que ocurre en este planera. Aqui en Abaya Yala, los eventos astrónomicos están ligados al arte textil: muchas culturas tejen imágenes para representar el tránsito del Sol a lo largo del año. Es esa geometría sacrada la que inspiró este chal mientras observaba el camino que el Sol traza dentro de mi casa.

Sobre este chal

Es un chal triangular que se trabaja de arriba a abajo. Su construcción es sencilla, así que es ideal para principiantes o quienes necesiten un proyecto no tan desafiante. La mayor parte está tejida con punto jersey, pero para ponerle un poquito de picante también usa punto mosaico y embroidery. La mayoría de los chales triagulares utiliza lazadas como sus aumentos, yo las mantengo en los bordes, pero en el centro uso otro tipo de aumentos y deslizo el punto central para crear una línea central poderosa. Ah, y también lleva esos vuelitos tan coquetos al final. Usa dos madejas de grosor fingering, alrededor de 800 m.

Resumen de la construcción

Geometría Sagrada comienza con una lengüeta de punto correteado usando el color principal, Para crecer se aumentan 4 puntos corrida por medio. La primera sección se trabaja con punto jersey, en las secciones del medio usarás correteado, mosaico y embroidery, además de trabajar con el color contrastante. Hacia el final volverás al punto jrsey para balancear todo y en el mero borde agregarás los vuelitos con el color contrastante. Tendras muchos puntos al final, así que es una buena experiencia para ejercitar tu paciencia.
