Intensely detailed, textured lace flows from the band right up to the crown in an intricate pattern. The textured lace creates chandelier shapes - or you could see them as a representation of the Australian native waratah flower. The design uses smocked stitches which are fully explained in the pattern.

Georgiana Newbury is knitted in worsted or heavy DK weight yarn to create a snug and comfortable little hat. The sizing can be adapted to be a little slouchy, and to tuck warmly over the ears.

The pattern uses 100m/110yards of yarn. Misti Alpaca Worsted, Cascade 220, Cleckheaton 8-ply and Bendigo Luxury 8-ply are all recommended.

The hat can be knitted from a chart, and full written instructions are also provided.

This pattern is named for Georgiana Newbury from Georgette Heyer’s Sylvester. Georgiana has a partner cowl, Lion Newbury (in testing), which uses the same stitch pattern to create a neck warmer.

One never knew what might happen at one of Georgie’s parties, said Lord Yarrow, declaring that he had once arrived five minutes after the crystal chandelier in the drawing-room had crashed to the floor, and had found Georgie standing like Dido amongst the ruins of Carthage, only rather more composed.
