NOTE: Pattern is both charted and has written instructions.
ERRATA: If you’ve downloaded the very first version, some minor mistakes have been discovered:
- Round 8 should start “sl1wyif, k4” (”l1gf, 4 rm“ på svenska), not k5
- If you want to make a larger shawl, the added rounds should be in chart E, not chart G.
- Swedish version: I teckenförklaringen, “LLM” är fel och ska vara “LLS”.
- In the written description of chart E, the markers should be placed BEFORE the yo, not after (round 80 is correct).
- In the written description, the number of pattern repeats should be 8 for chart E & F and 16 for chart G.
The pattern is corrected and uploaded again immediately after discovering any errors.
DESCRIPTION:
Gerbera is a semi-crescent lace shawl with a floral pattern, knit from the centre out. It imitates the foliage of the gerbera flower, starting with a large capitulum of florets (the center “flower head” part) and continues growing out into large flower petals, ending with a lace mesh that accentuates the petal tips.
The shawl is based on the same principles as the pi shawl, developed by Elisabeth Zimmerman, where the number of stitches multiply at a certain interval. In this case the increases have, however, been continuously integrated in the lace pattern. For the lace to bloom properly, it should be blocked tightly.
The Gerbera shawl is adapted for the yarn Heb Merino Fine from Rosy Green Wool, a lovely soft fingering weight yarn that combines fine merino wool with the dark fibers from the rare Hebridean sheep which makes it beautifully heathered.
ORGANIC KNITTERS
This shawl pattern is part of a collaboration between the author and the yarn shop Organic Knitters. Organic Knitters is an online yarn store for conscious knitters and fiber enthusiasts. The shop is based in Sweden and ships to all EU countries. It offers fairly produced and organic yarn that is good to the environment, the animals and to humans. The goal is to make sure that the production is as sustainable as possible all the way from farming to spinning and dyeing. We hope that you will enjoy a new dimension in your creative process when choosing yarn with a clear conscience.
