This pattern is a combination of the concepts of the Quick Climate Scarf and the Impressionist Climate Scarf as a variation of The Point Scarf by Christopher Bahls to provide the impression of years and decades. Either follow the pattern for the whole length or follow The Point Scarf instructions for joining two halves to mirror image the ends. For pointed ends, follow The Point Scarf instructions.
The colourway is based on the appearance of the Global Temperature 6 Colour Climate scarf illustrating 100 years of global climate (1920-2019), but uses gradient dyed yarn and an eyelet pattern to imply decades. Material:
Select yarns with long gradients.
Instructions include suggestions for both blue/red (cold/hot) and green/brown (living/dead) colourways.

Scarf dimensions:
12cmx160cm (5 x 63in) using 8ply yarn and size 7 (4.5mm) needles - approx. 140g per scarf - when using 35 sts but this will depend on chosen yarn. Pattern length is 16cm with 10 repeats per scarf; one repeat representing one decade. Choose needles/yarn to give pattern length 1/10 of final scarf length.

As gradient yarns vary, below is the actual colour ranges per year to be aiming for.
C6: Hottest (so far!): 10cm (4in) (2014-2020)
C5: Hot: 20cm (8in) (2001-2013)
C4: Warm 23cm (9in) (1986-2000)
C3: Neutral: 30cm (12in) (1966-1985)
C2: Cool: 45cm (18cm) (1946-1965)
C3: WW2: 8cm (3.5in) (1940-1945)
C2: Cool: 15cm (6in) (1930-1939)
C1: Cold: 15cm (6in) (1920-1929) (NB this is artistic license as the colour should be mostly C2 after 1910 with only an occasional year of C1)
