GET-UP-AND-GO Messy Bun Ponytail Hat
Get what you pay for: This pattern is easy to follow and has been professionally test knit and tech edited. It first appeared through Knit Picks, and now I’m offering it on Ravelry, too.
If you knit for charity or to sell-for-profit in small, handmade quantities at craft fairs, I am happy to give you permission to sell your finished hats. These sell like crazy at charity, vendor or craft shows.
Messy hair never looked so good! The GET-UP AND GO Ponytail Messy Bun Beanie Hat is perfect for those who like to knit in-the-round, love instant gratification knitting, or want a quick knit for an impressive, last minute gift.
You’ll especially love this hat on days when you don’t want to mess with your hair, or on windy spring, fall, or winter days when you want to keep your hair from flying in your face.
The hat is worked from the bottom up and is easy enough for a beginner to complete in a day or less (often in a few hours).
For those who prefer a traditional, closed-top hat, you will find the instructions for that, too. One size fits most, so this pattern works for everyone from child/teen to man bun size. Bonus: Optional instructions on how to easily custom fit this hat, so the length works perfectly for everyone.
Materials
• Yarn: 80 yards bulky yarn. Shown in top photo: Knit Picks Chroma Twist Bulky (70% Superwash Wool, 30% Nylon) Ferris Wheel is the colorway in the top photo.
• Needle(s): U.S. Size 10 in your preferred style for circular knitting (or size to get gauge). If using a circular needle, use a 16” cable. If you are knitting a closed-top hat, or if you find the last two rounds of the open-top hat too snug for one needle, use double pointed needles, two circular needles, or the Magic Loop method.
• Notions: A hard ruler and a large-eye tapestry needle, a stitch marker, and scissors. Optional: knitting needle protectors for trying on your hat while in progress and a soft tape measure.
What You Need to Know Before Knitting Your Hat: How to cast on using a long-tail cast on (or any stretchy cast on). How to knit and decrease in-the-round, how to purl, how to knit 2 stitches together, how to bind off, how to weave in ends, and how to block. The suggested method for binding off is the sewn bind-off – instructions given in this pattern.
The pattern itself is not available for you to copy, redistribute, share, or sell. Thanks.
