Get Up And Go spiral socks
These awesome socks are the ones I always grab when I’m getting ready to get up and go…….running errands, traveling on a plane, overseeing a fundraiser, going on a shopping spree, or any other activity that doesn’t involve working in the garden or on the boat. They fit like a glove, are thin and stretchy enough to fit in all of my casual shoes, and don’t shift and bunch during a long day on my feet. They’re dependable and I absolutely love them!
The fun “striped” effect is actually achieved by crocheting with both colors at the same time, working in spirals. There are no joins and you don’t have to cut and weave in ends.
Reinforcement yarn is recommended. You could make these socks without it, but socks always wear out on the bottom first, and if you go to all that work you want your socks to last as long as possible! Unfortunately, reinforcement yarn is not typically available in the average yarn store. It’s usually only available in high end yarn shops or online. It adds strength to the bottom of the toe, foot, and heel. To add it, simply lay it alongside the working strand of sock yarn with a ¼ inch tail, then work stitches with both strands of yarn. At the end of the reinforced section, cut the reinforcement yarn leaving a ¼ inch tail and continue with working strand only. Inevitably, there will be a few tiny ends poking out here and there, but it is really of no concern, they’re not going to unravel. Just use a crochet hook to pull them to the inside of the sock and leave them be, and they will soon felt into the sock.
