'Getaway' Mosaic Bag
This is an overlay mosaic crochet design worked in the round to make a bag, it includes a chart and written instructions. You can recreate the bag pictured or use the pattern as inspiration for bags of varying sizes - you can even use this bag structure with other simple mosaic crochet patterns you have in your collection - I give basic ideas for making these adaptations.
This pattern gives detailed instructions for making my bag but the repeating mosaic patterns could also be used for a blanket, cushion cover, table runner or wall hanging, amongst many other possibilities. All the patterns repeat every 8 stitches across so can be scaled up and down in size easily.
This is a fairly simple pattern suitable for someone who is intermediate at crochet. I enjoy working in the round like we do in this pattern, as you don’t have lots of ends to weave in or cover like you would when working in rows. Each time we change colors in this piece, you drop the previous color behind and pick it up in the next round without cutting. If you are new to working in the round or to mosaic crochet patterns, I include some basic instructions and photos, and links for some of my favorite video tutorials.
I used Hobbii Cotton Kings Sultan in Rainbow Gem and Drops Safran Cotton Yarn, 4ply, in Black. My bag used 250g / 900 m (985 yds) of yarn (approx 90g black and 160g rainbow).
The pattern includes one mosaic chart with written instructions alongside.
I’d love to see what you make!
