I call this a ponycowl because it can be worn as a ponytail hat or as a cowl. It will work with most yarns that are approximately worsted weight. I like to use two yarns with different lofts, texture or sheen so that they really contrast. This is a good pattern for using up leftover yarn. You will need only 1 oz. of each color. I use a smaller than usual needle when knitting brioche because I don’t like it too loose.

I created this pattern in honor of my late grandmother-in-law, Gail, who was way too cool to be called “Great Grandma”. She had the quaintest home I’ve ever seen; decorated in simple red, black, and white and accented with cute little red hearts intuitively placed to never seem cheesy. Everyone felt cozy in her home which she kept nice and warm and always had a candle lit, waiting to welcome a visitor so she could hear all about the latest news in their lives. She cried easily and laughed more easily and everyone who met her would never forget her. She is dearly missed.
