La Crucita Florecida (The Flowered Cross) is the 4th tile in the Grandpa’s Guayaberas Series. When I was young, I was lucky enough to spend a lot of time with my grandparents learning their history, listening to stories about when they were migrant workers, and learning their crafts- like woodworking, crocheting, and sewing by hand.

I used to love looking at the intricate embroidery in the garments they wore, specifically in the guayaberas my grandfather wore. In this series, I wanted to capture some of the embroidered components in these shirts that have a long history and tradition.

This pattern is crafted by using the mosaic overlay crochet method. Any size hook and any yarn can be used, and yardage is dependent on what sized project you wish to create.

For the pictured throw, I used a little less than 3 skeins of each color, 12 repeats, and it measures 36”x41.“

Pattern Features:

  • Any pattern in this series can be used together or separately
and can also be mixed with pattern: Diamonds and Pearls
